How Strängnäs Replaced an Ageing In-House Event Guide With Cruncho
Strängnäs Municipality retired a self-built event guide that had grown buggy and resource-heavy, moving to Cruncho — an established, supported platform with 300+ organizers and 2,000+ events.

The Challenge
Strängnäs had built its own event guide in-house, and for a few years it served them well. But needs changed and expanded: more people were using the guide, requests for new features kept growing, and the underlying technology had aged. Bugs became more frequent — and trickier to solve. Continuing to develop the existing solution would have demanded a great deal of internal resources, with the municipality responsible for every update and fix.
“We want a vibrant municipality where there's plenty for residents and visitors to experience. A key part of that is offering a platform where organizers can reach people with their events — and making it easy for people to find activities for a meaningful free time.”
The Vision
Strängnäs wanted an event guide that cut internal administration and let organizers add and manage their own events. They looked for features that made it easy for organizers to enter correct, relevant information, and to have their events presented in an attractive, accessible way. Strong search and filtering were essential — so visitors could quickly find what's right for them — and the whole experience had to work well on mobile.
The Solution
Cruncho offered many of the exact functions Strängnäs was looking for — and it was already trusted by many municipalities like them, who seemed satisfied. Rather than carrying the full burden of a self-built system, Strängnäs chose an established, packaged service where support, bug fixes, and continuous development are all included. The calendar is embedded via iFrame on strangnas.se, with organizers adding events through the Event Manager and a simple approval process keeping quality high.
The user-friendly organizer interface, attractive event presentation, and strong search, filtering, and categorization were exactly what they needed.
The Results
Where the old solution needed manual handling for every event, organizers now add, administer, and update their own listings with ease. Letting go of editorial control felt like a leap at first — but it has gone exceptionally well. Strängnäs now has many more organizers using the guide, and visitors find it more accessible and easier to sort through. The most valued pieces: the user-friendly organizer interface, the simple approval flow, and event categorization that helps visitors find what's relevant to them.
“It was a little scary to let go of the editorial control, but it has gone really well. We have many more organizers using our guide now, and visitors experience it as more accessible and easier to sort through.”
We recommend Cruncho Events because it's a reliable, flexible solution that delivers what a living event calendar needs. Their support is fast and dependable — and when we have requests, we feel heard.
